Customers to get mobile network boost in major 5G rollout
Great Malvern will get a mobile network boost as one of the latest areas to join EE's 5G standalone network.
In a major rollout covering more than 34 million people the advanced mobile technology will reach commuter towns, regional hubs, and smaller communities facing mobile pressure due to growing populations, higher data usage, and hybrid working.
By the end of August, EE's 5G standalone network will be accessible to more than half of the UK population, including major cities, tourist hotspots, and entertainment venues, making it the UK's largest 5G standalone network less than a year after its launch.
EE aims to extend 5G standalone availability to more than 41 million people by spring 2026.
In recent weeks, several towns and cities across the UK have seen their mobile connectivity enhanced, with EE activating 5G standalone in locations such as Carlisle, Chesterfield, and York.
In the next month, customers in Great Malvern - one of 38 locations - will benefit from improved network performance.
EE has also introduced its Voice over 5G standalone (Vo5G) feature for iOS and Android users with compatible devices, allowing voice calls in more areas with quicker setup times, enhancing connectivity.
5G standalone is designed to unleash the full potential of 5G, offering smoother livestreaming, faster loading and upload speeds, better indoor connectivity, and improved video calls and mobile gaming, said EE.
The network can deliver up to 100 times more capacity than 4G, making it adept at handling multiple devices simultaneously, ensuring reliable mobile internet even in busy locations.
Building a nationwide 5G standalone network is projected to significantly boost the UK economy, unlocking up to £230 billion in benefits and productivity enhancements.
"5G standalone on EE makes your experience smoother, faster, and more secure," said Greg McCall, chief networks officer at BT Group.
To access 5G standalone, customers need to be in a coverage area, have a compatible device, and an EE 5GSA-ready SIM card or eSIM as part of their plan.
This technology is available to all new and upgrading customers on any EE pay monthly handset plan.
